The BC Sea Kayak Award course is aimed at those paddlers who fancy applying their skills into paddling Sea Kayaks.

Location

The course will be based at two locations, day one will be in Chichester harbour,  the second day will be conducted outide the harbour in the real sea

The course will start from Itchenor Public Slipway (PO20 7AW), 

Pre-requisites

To get the most out of this course we recommend that you have been kayaking before, and have some experience of paddling fundamentals.

Course Programme

The Sea Kayak Award focuses on your paddling and decision making skills for a safe and enjoyable day out on the sea in winds up to force 3 and/or tides up to 1 knots, using sea kayaks or sit on tops in tidal or nontidal environments. Effective forward paddling, negotiating confined spaces and maintaining and changing direction are all part of the award as well as developing an understanding of the surroundings and environment we use.

Candidates will need to bring snacks and a packed lunch including drinks for each day.

 

Personal Clothing and Equipment

Please bring personal clothing and equipment suitable for weather conditions forecast for each day of the course. We will provide the following:

• Sea Kayak
• Paddles
• Buoyancy aids
• Helmets (when appropriate)
• Spray Decks
• Relevant safety kit (pump, flares, group shelter, repair kit)
• Relevant water access licenses
• Maps/Charts
