Location

The course will be based at Taplow Lake but may also use the Jubilee River which is a few minutes’ walk from the lake. There is parking at the lake or Taplow railway station is 15 min’s walk away (³/₄ mile).

 

Course Programme

Your Discover Award allows you to develop your decision making and practical skills for a fun and safe time on the water, taking you on the next steps towards becoming a proficient and independent paddler. Learn how to choose and effectively use equipment, whilst developing an understanding of the factors which affect your
paddling; giving you the confidence to progress to making your own choices with the Explore Award.

 

Please note on successful completion of this course there is a £7 (£6 BC members) certification fee payable directly to Canoe England.

 

Pre-requisites

Candidates must be water confident and ideally should be able to swim. Although this is desirable it is not essesntial. If under 14 the learning programme of Paddle Power might be more appropriate.

 

Personal Clothing and Equipment

Engage Watersports will provide wetsuits, spray tops and buoyancy aids and all boating equipment you will need for the course, all of which is included in the price of the course. Each participant will need to bring along swimwear, a towel, shoes you are happy to get wet in, and a rash vest/thermal top or tee shirt to go under the wetsuit. Hopefully it will be sunny so sun tan lotion and a hat would also be advisable. 

 

Other Facilities

Please note we have a reasonably priced café on site that provides hot and cold food and refreshments, if you prefer to bring a packed lunch then that’s fine but we would ask that this is consumed away from the café area if it is busy. A water bottle/hydration system to take afloat/use at the bank side is recommended.
